6-Lane elevated superhighway to come up in Kolkata soon

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is planning to construct a 7.2 kilometre six-lane elevated superhighway on the Kona Expressway in Kolkata. The Kona Expressway is one of the three key highways to enter Kolkata and is part of NH12 and NH16 near Kona, Nibra to Vivekananda Setu. The stretch often witnesses heavy traffic snarls. Estimated to be constructed at a cost of Rs 720 crore, the new stretch aims to address the traffic menace. The work on the superhighway is expected to be completed by 2026.  As per reports, the NHAI will also relay a four-lane surface road to make it a 10-lane high-speed corridor. The project contract has been awarded to the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited.
