‘Melting’ road

Increase in temperature resulted in freshly laid bitumen melting on a 200-meter stretch connecting Chandra Shekhar Azad bridge to Adajan Patiya in Surat. This led vehicle riders and pedestrians to be extra cautious while taking this road. The Surat Municipal Corporation sprinkled dust on the road to avert mishap. As per the officials, liquid bitumen was used to prevent water from percolating into the road and to make the road remain in good condition for a long time. In Ahmedabad, the bitumen and asphalt layer had melted spontaneously on 1.5 km long Sudram Nagar road of Gomtipur ward of the city, a month ago.
