New highways across India
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari inspected the Banihal-Qazigund tunnel and other projects in Jammu and Kashmir. Gadkari said that the Delhi-Jammu-Srinagar highway will contribute to a four-fold rise in the footfall of tourists in Kashmir. The 924-metre-long Banihal-Qazigund tunnel, is being constructed to avoid a 3km landslide-prone region in Ramban district of Jammu. This is part of the ongoing four-laning of the 270-km Jammu-Srinagar national highway. Gadkari also said that road projects worth Rs 1.25 lakh crore are underway in the valley. Gadkari promised that a new road will be ready for use by the start of the new year. The new highway, connecting Kashmir and Kanyakumari will be the longest to be constructed in recent times. The new highway will basically be interconnected with existing and upcoming highways and expressways.
